Materials Characterization and Micro- and Nanofabrication Facility

Mission Statement

The Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (IMSE) seeks to create and sustain a culture of interdisciplinary materials science research and education at Washington University in St. Louis that eliminates traditional boundaries between departments and schools. Toward this end, the IMSE administers an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program; expands and administers user facilities and resources for materials processing and characterization; coordinates and provides management support for interdisciplinary groups pursuing external funding for campus-wide research efforts; and coordinates research and entrepreneurial interactions with industry and national facilities.

Overview

Welcome to the IMSE user facility, located Rudolph Hall at Washington University in St. Louis. The 12,000 sq-ft facility opened in Fall 2013 and includes materials characterization and micro- and nanofabrication cleanroom facilities. The Schools of Arts & Sciences and McKelvey School of Engineering jointly established the IMSE to integrate and leverage the full potential of interdisciplinary materials research by bringing together more than 50 researchers from Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Earth and Planetary Sciences and the Medical School. The facilities are available for research groups at WashU and to outside universities and organizations, including industry users.

Our expert staff offer training, assistance, and service work. For more information please visit https://imse.wustl.edu/facilities/index.html
